I am back…

The vacation is over and it is time to get back to work… Photos from our trip have to be processed first, so it will take some time before they are posted here - stay tuned for updates.

During our travel, another paper of mine was published, this time in the Journal of the American Chemical Society. This work concerns the specific ion effects at nonpolar surfaces of proteins and discusses the interplay between hydration and other forces, influencing the resulting ion binding pattern. Bibliographical information and the respective link can be found in the Journal Articles section.

Vacation & update

I am on vacation from 18. August to 30. August and will be at work again on 1. September. During the vacation, my access to E-mail will be limited, so don’t expect fast response from me.

Just before leaving, new version of WordPress showed up. Therefore, the installation was upgraded in order to apply all security patches available. As usually, everything proceeded smooth using the Automatic Upgrade plugin.

pyOZ homepage

I am main and (currently) also the only one developer of an iterative solver of the Ornstein-Zernike equation. The program is called pyOZ and is written in Python programming language with heavy use of the SciPy/NumPy bundle for scientific computing.

The homepage of the project was created under http://pyoz.vrbka.net.

… everything seems to work normally - WordPress developers are doing a good job.

The WordPress theme used by this site (Barthelme by Scott Wallick) was updated to the newest version. This removed the annoying bug with missing Home link on all pages (except the title page, of course, where the Home link isn’t necessary).

Publications update

Another paper is out (after a very very long waiting period). This publication concerns the theoretical study (by means of DFT) of interactions of acetonitrile with Na-zeolites. The abstract and also full text information are accessible here. Publication records (web, PDF, English, PDF, Czech, LaTeX source .tar.bz2) in this web presentation were updated as well.

Photos from Berlin trip

We spent extremely pleasant 5 days in Berlin. There we met with Bernd and Cyn (”old” friends of mine), and attended also the yearly gathering of the people somehow connected with Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung (fellows, administrative staff, guests, …). This meeting allowed us to meet some new interesting people and to enjoy the hospitality of the president of Germany (since he organized a banquet for all Humboldtians attending the meeting on his castle in the very heart of Berlin - Schloß Bellevue).

Teaching and publications update

The notes for the lab experiment “Binary diagrams from cooling curves” were modified and extended. The text can be found here (at the moment only in English language). German version should follow soon.

Our new publication in Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics concerning cations in zeolites and their interaction with acetonitrile has been added to the publication list (web version only). The PDF/LaTeX version will be changed at the moment when the paper will be available in print (currently, it is an “advance article”).

The page related to my current research interests is also already more or less up-to-date.

Content updates

New publication (research article in the Journal of Physical Chemistry C) has been added to the publication list. Also the general Publications page was modified. This paper discusses the results of a combined experimental and theoretical study of water freezing in the presence/absence of salt ions. The freezing experiments with levitated water droplets were accompanied by molecular dynamics simulations of water in infinite slabs.

Sections related to my research (here, here, and here) were updated, but the transition is still not finished - it might take some time to get it to up-to-date state.

New page was created, dedicated to my teaching at the University of Regensburg. It’s almost empty now, but some content should be available soon.

The “Eating in Regensburg / Essen in Regensburg / Kam se jít najíst v Regensburgu” page was updated with new content as well.

Konečně jsem se dostal ke zpracování fotek z dovolené a Sisa k nim bleskově dodělala popisky. Na výsledky našeho snažení se můžete podívat v téhle galerii.

Třídílné povídání o dovolené (které taktéž vytvořila Sisa) si můžete přečíst tady (1. díl), tady (2.díl) a tady (3. díl).
